North Dakota parenting class requirement
Only if your scheduling order says so
North Dakota has no statewide parent education mandate. The court rule lets a scheduling order set a date for the parties to complete parent or divorce education, which means the requirement exists in your case only if the judge put it there. Read your scheduling order when it arrives.
The requirement at a glance
| Who must attend | Only the parties in a case whose scheduling order includes it. Rule 8.3 covers divorce cases and Rule 8.3.1 covers determinations of parental rights and motions to modify residential responsibility. |
| Hours required | None set by rule |
| Deadline | Whatever date your scheduling order sets. The scheduling order itself issues within 30 days after the informational statement is filed, so read it closely when it arrives. |
| Authority | N.D. R. Ct. 8.3(b)(4); 8.3.1(b)(4) |
| Our price | $25 for one parent, $50 for both parents on the same case. Scholarship seats are funded by donors, so no parent is turned away for money. |
| Our registry status | Planned for a later filing wave. Our acceptance guarantee applies wherever your court accepts an outside online provider. |
What the law actually says
“The scheduling order may establish any of the following deadlines: ... a specific date for the parties to complete parent/divorce education.”

If the deadline passes
The rules set no penalty. Missing the date is a violation of a scheduling order, handled under the court's general authority, and we are not going to dress that up as something more.
Who approves providers in North Dakota
There is no statewide approval body and no published statewide list of approved providers. Acceptance is effectively up to the judicial district or the individual judge, so ask the court which providers it accepts before you pay anyone.
