Idaho parenting class requirement

Only if the court orders it

Idaho has no statewide parent education mandate. The family law rule says the court may order parties into parent education, and in practice the requirement arrives as a local order issued at filing, so it depends entirely on your district and your judge.

Planned

The requirement at a glance

Who must attendOnly the parties a court orders. The rule is permissive: the court may order the parties to engage in parent education and other resources, and may order supplemental education such as parenting skills or parental conflict resolution classes. In practice many clerks issue an order to attend at filing, one for each parent.
Hours requiredNone set statewide
DeadlineNothing statewide. Set case by case in the local order, which is served on the respondent with the petition and summons.
AuthorityIdaho R. Fam. L. P. 1001(c); district orders
Fees and waiversNo statutory cap. One district's own class runs about $25 per parent.
Our price$25 for one parent, $50 for both parents on the same case. Scholarship seats are funded by donors, so no parent is turned away for money.
Our registry statusPlanned for a later filing wave. Our acceptance guarantee applies wherever your court accepts an outside online provider.

What the law actually says

“The court has discretion to enter default if the responding party fails to attend the parenting class.”

Idaho R. Fam. L. P. 1001(c)Quoted from the official text. Read it yourself at the source below.

The part nobody explains

If the deadline passes

The court has discretion to enter default if the responding party fails to attend the parenting class. A default does not relieve that party of taking the class, and the court may still enforce the order through contempt.

Who approves providers in Idaho

There is no statewide approval mechanism and no statewide list. Delivery runs through each district's Family Court Services office, and the districts we could check run their own class rather than accepting outside providers. Entry would mean selling the idea district by district, which is why Idaho sits in a later wave for us.

Honesty policy. This page reflects our live approval registry, and it is written to be checked. We do not claim an approval we do not hold, we tell you when a rule is set locally rather than statewide, and we label a summary as a summary instead of dressing it up as a quotation. If your court will not accept this certificate, we refund you in full. Nothing here is legal advice; your own order and your county's rules control.
